Lead Dispatcher (DAY SHIFT)



Under the direction of the Manager Safety & Transportation, assigns scheduled, add-on and emergency tasks to members of the transportation staff. Understands the Mission, Vision, and Values of the organization by recognizing the elderly 

we serve as requiring individual alternatives to maintain full lives in their later years. 


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Maintains established departmental policies, procedures and objectives, including safety, environmental and infection control standards.

  1. Supervises assistant dispatcher to achieve optimal customer service and achieve daily dispatch goals.

  1. Utilizes dispatch software system to continuously monitor location and speeds of driving team to achieve efficiency and safety goals.

  1. Works closely with Department manager daily in setting department strategy, staffing levels, vehicle usage, and assistance with special events.

  1. Assigns appropriate transportation staff to carry out daily operations in the department, including schedule changes and emergencies, in a safe and efficient manner.

  1. Resolves transportation conflicts and handles unusual or difficult requests or complaints.

  1. Assists in departmental record keeping and implementation of dispatch computer program.

  1. Attends all required in-service training.

  1. Assists in overseeing the proper maintenance of Masonicare vehicles and equipment and coordinates service and repairs as needed.

  1. Interacts with adult and older adult residents/patients and various Masonicare affiliates and departments to facilitate the transportation of medical appointments, recreational outings freight and errands after considering the need for and importance of the various requests.

  1. Handles all communication tactfully and effectively at all times, especially with adult and older adult residents and patients, recognizing their age, abilities, and needs.

  1. Transports residents, patients, and freight safely and effectively, when needed.

  1. Provides the Department Manager with suggestions and ways to improve the overall quality and daily operations.

  1. Understands the chemicals used under the “Right to Know” standard and to follow universal precautions, as it applies to the department. 

  1. Performs other related duties, as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications: 

Education:  High School Graduate, or equivalent.

Experience: 2-3 years’ experience in transportation, or a related field. Supervisory experience preferred. 

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Valid CT. Drivers License is required.

Key Competencies: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

                                  The ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks.
