The Lead Admission Counselor is responsible for tasks related to the patient admission process. Registers patients, conducts patient interview, explains policies and financial responsibilities. Responsible
for obtaining all admission package signatures and consents.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Updates and distributes daily census and bed availability information for Masonicare Health Center (MHC).
- Verifies primary insurance benefits and existing Title XIX and Medicaid benefits working closely with the Finance Department on secondary insurance as they occur; make appropriate changes in the computer system.
- Prepares monthly reporting for State and MHC Administrator and Quality Measures.
- Obtains pre-authorization, as necessary for insurances and verified by Finance Department.
- Provides back up for Admissions Assistant functions regarding consent signing.
- Responds to admission inquiries via hospital, referral source, telephone or walk in and provides pertinent information. Maintains and fosters public relations with customers, internal and external.
- Assists in responding to admission inquiries via hospital, referral source, telephone or walk in and provides pertinent information.
- Provides assistance with pre-admitting patient to all levels of care.
- Initiates calls to families regarding consents and follows up with long term care admissions.
- Provides notification to specific facilities regarding bed availability.
- Provided support with short term consents and long term care (LTC) admission paperwork and application process.
- Setting up meetings with Hospitals and surrounding assisted Living facilities.
- Updating Assessment Pro with admit and Discharges when needed. Adding New Ascends of long-term admissions.
- Maintaining waiting list; reaching out providing an update and/or answer any questions to those who are waiting for a bed to open. Provide waiting list as needed to other departments.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education: High school education or equivalent
Experience: At least one year of experience in a healthcare setting; preferably in an admissions/insurance verification setting.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: N/A
Key Competencies: Knowledge of/or ability to learn reimbursement programs, i.e. Medicaid/Medicare; excellent organization and communication/customer service skills. Knowledge of various software programs including Word, Excel, Outlook.
