Newington, CT

Day Shift / 40 hrs/wk

Summary of Position:             Plans, organizes, and directs all housekeeping, security, and maintenance services.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Hire, train, and supervise housekeeping staff, maintenance staff, and security staff. 

  1. Handle routine disciplinary matters concerning employees.   

  1. Develop and maintain departmental policies and procedures.        

  1. Makes recommendations and assists in preparations of departmental, salary, expense, and capital budgets.

  1. Maintains departmental reports and records and collects statistical data for administrative and regulatory purposes.

  1. Plans, organizes, and manages loss prevention and other activities of Masonicare at  MIDDLEWOODS OF NEWINGTON.

  1. Inspects building and grounds to ensure conformance with established standards and regulations.

  1. Coordinates preventative maintenance schedules and prioritizes repair and maintenance work to minimize disruption of operations.

  1. Maintain positive relationships and contract agreements with outside vendors hired through the Housekeeping Department and Facility Services Department.

  1. Responsible for monthly resident billing.

  1. Directs snow removal and other projects to ensure timely completion.

  1. Understands and follows universal precautions and is aware of all chemicals used in the department.

  1. Plans the on-call schedule, and assists when necessary.

  1. Works as a team member within the department, as well as with other departments.

  1. Obtains bids from contractors when necessary.  Assists in overseeing outside contractors.

  1. Schedule and oversee initial cleans, final cleans and occupied renovations.  

  1. Coordinate and manage trash removal program.  Includes trash, recycling, bio-medical, hazardous, regulated and removable waste management.  

  1. Coordinate and manage pest control program.

  1. Schedule work orders as needed.

  1. Inspect facility on a regular basis to assure standards are being met.

  1. Instruct staff in the use and care of housekeeping equipment. Requisition supplies. Detect and report defective supplies, faulty equipment and other issues.  Assure equipment and storage areas are maintained in a clean and orderly condition, and that all prescribed and standard safety and sanitation rules are followed. 

  1. Communicate effectively and tactfully with residents and staff, recognizing their age, cultural diversity, needs, abilities and physical condition. Interact with residents in a respectful and reassuring manner in resolution of complaints and/or concerns.

  1. Maintain MSDS sheets in assigned areas throughout facility.

  1. Attends meetings as required.  Participates in in-service programs.

  1. Other duties as needed.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: High school graduate.   Associates/Bachelors’ degree in related field is preferred.

Experience: Sufficient previous experience in housekeeping and laundry services with supervisory responsibility.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:  Specialty licensure in HVAC  is preferred.
