Summary of Position:
Under the direction of the Transportation Services Manager, this is a multi-purpose position. The primary responsibility is that of dispatch support and a backup shuttle driver.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities as dispatch support:
- Works with appropriate transportation staff to carry out daily operations of the department, including schedule changes and emergencies, in a safe and efficient manner.
2. Resolves transportation conflicts and handles unusual or difficult requests or complaints.
3. Utilizes dispatch computer program to achieve daily operational goals.
4. Attends all required in-service training.
5. Interacts with adult and older adult residents/patients and various Masonicare affiliates and departments to facilitate the transportation of medical appointments, recreational outings, freight and errands after considering the need and importance of various requests.
6. Demonstrates supportive attitude towards patients, visitors and/or staff. Communicates effectively and tactfully with residents/patients recognizing their age, needs, abilities and physical condition.
7. Reports all unsafe conditions to appropriate supervisor, including change in patient status, broken or malfunctioning equipment, or anything that could be potential threat or danger to a resident.
8. Understands and follows Universal Precautions as it pertains to their department.
9. Performs other related duties, as assigned.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities as back up Shuttle Driver:
- Drives truck, bus, station wagon or other hospital vehicles to transport freight, Masonic Home and Hospital members or Ashlar Village residents to outside appointments or activities
- Maintains established departmental policies, procedures, and objective, quality assessment and improvement programs, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
- Maintain the vehicles; drives them to designed service station for maintenance, repair and refueling. Maintains record of use, mileage, repairs or service required.
- Demonstrates supportive attitude towards patients, visitors and/or staff. Communicates effectively and tactfully with residents/patients recognizing their age, needs, abilities and physical condition.
- Reports all unsafe conditions to appropriate supervisor including change in patient status, broken or malfunctioning equipment or anything that could be potential threat or danger to a resident.
- Understands and follows Universal Precautions as it pertains to their department.
- Understands chemical(s) used in their department under the "Right To Know" standard.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education: High School Graduate, or equivalent.
Experience: Experience in transportation, or a related field. Supervisory experience preferred.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Valid CT. Drivers License is required with “F” endorsement.
