Stationary Engineer

Job Location: Wallingford Center, Connecticut

The Stationary Engineer operates and maintains boilers and other auxiliary equipment necessary for producing steam for heat and power for the Masonicare Health Center

This position is fulltime 40 hrs Evenings and some overnights and weekends.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1.         Operates and maintains boilers; observes various meters and gauges and takes appropriate action for safe operation.

2.         Starts, stops and switches over boiler as appropriate.

3.         Cleans and repairs boilers, blow tubes and discharge sediment; regulates feed water and condensation pumps and lubricates pump equipment.

  • Cleans inside of boiler wall and repairs and/or replaces broken or worn parts.
  • Tests emergency generators and log results, reaction, etc.  Tests boiler and cooling tower water samples; assigns proper chemical treatment to boiling and cooling waters.
  • Performs periodic inspections of mechanical rooms throughout the hospital to ensure proper operation of heat, air conditioning and ventilation, and medical support equipment.
  • Perform routine maintenance repairs in the hospital when called between the hours of 5:00 am and 8:00pm daily and all day Saturday, Sunday and holidays.  Contact maintenance mechanic or supervisor on call if unable to make the necessary repair depending on the urgency of the repair.
  • Checks operation of emergency generators during a power failure. Takes reading and resets relays that trip out.   Check and reset elevators and makes sure no individuals are in  the elevator.
  • When applicable, demonstrates competencies, including knowledge and behaviors to meet age-specific resident/patient needs.
  • Attend meetings as required.   Participates in in-service meeting.

4.       Performs other duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:                  Post High School Vocational/Specialized Training

Experience:                 1-3 years boiler room experience.                   

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: License as a Boiler Operator preferred.

Key Competencies:     Proficient knowledge of boilers, generators, elevators, air conditioning machinery/equipment.  Mechanical aptitude.  Ability to hand emergency situations. Ability to handle multiple tasks.
